Just 5 km from Loen into Lodalen (Loen valley) is a beautiful place for relaxation - Sande Camping. A narrow road with a cliff on one side and lake on the other side leads to probably the best viewpoint of the valley accessible by car
This place is a great starting point to Mount Skåla, 1848 m above sea level. The tower at the summit - Skålatårnet - is a DNT (Norwegian Trekking Association) self-service cabin where you can rest after the trip, as well as overnight. Originally, this was built as a sanitarium to cure illness.
Loen Lake welcomes fishermen, too. Fishing here is free, it does not require any fishing licence. Spend the day surrounded by mountains and catch as many trouts as you want.
The road futher away from the camping grounds leads to the end of the valley and hits Kjenndalsbreen (12 km from Sande Camping). On the way to Kjenndalsbreen you can make a stop at Bødal, and have a walk on the historical site of Bødal village, which was destroyed twice in 1905 and 1936 by a huge wave created by falling rocks from the Ramnefjellet across the lake.
