Geocache Description:

Her er væksten generelt ringe.

The dune plantations by Vandet Sø
The dune plantations are established in the years from 1883 until the turn of the century. They later expanded by additional land acquisition in the period 1930-50.
Nystrup and Vilsbøl Plantations has both a western part situated on an elevated stone age seafloor. This growth is minimal. Otherwise, it applies to all plantations that during fly otherwise glacial deposits of fat, calcareous clay. This means that there is extremely good growth conditions where the sand layer is not too thick that the tree roots can penetrate it.
In Nystrup plantation are large areas of inland dunes still covered with the original mountain pines. Most places are mountain pine has been replaced by more productive species as Sitka spruce, fir, Scotch pine and noble fir. In all the plantations there are also significant areas of beech, oak and other hardwood species.
