Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Valley View Picnic Area, which is accessible by car from the Trans Canada Highway, East Bound only, between the Town of Banff and the Banff East Gate. But the highly recommended way to find this cache is by bicycle. The Legacy Trail is one of the best cycling trails in the country!

Note: Parking at the picnic area requires a valid Parks Canada pass.

The recommended starting location is the Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centre in Canmore. If you don’t have a bike, you can rent one from several places in Canmore: http://bikecanmore.ca/bike-friendly-business/shops-repairs-rentals/http://bikecanmore.ca/bike-friendly-business/shops-repairs-rentals/.  From this starting point, it is approximately 10 km to the Valley View Picnic Area and will take you between 30 to 45 minutes one way.  Once here, you might just want to continue on to the Town of Banff.  From here, you can take Roam Transit back to Canmore or for a lovely half-day to full-day adventure, do some of the many wonderful geocaches in the vicinity of the Banff townsite and then ride back! The view looks quite different heading the other way and there is more downhill!  Canmore has lots of really cool and creative geocaches too!

Build up your cycling muscles a bit more and come back again! The Legacy Trail continues beyond Banff along the lovely Vermillion Lakes Road and along a paved trail to connect with the Bow Valley Parkway.  This scenic road, with maximum speeds of 50 – 60 km is a cyclists paradise and goes all the way to Lake Louise.  Consider riding one way from Banff (60 km) or Canmore (80km), staying over in Lake Louise and returning the next day. You might want to consider staying in the village of Lake Louise because the 4 km up to the Lake is a whole lot of UP at the end of the day.  Of course, there are some amazing geocaches to be found at Lake Louise too!

Welcome to my world of cycling + national parks + geocaching + photography!  Outdoor adventure at its finest!
