Geocache Description:

This cache is winter friendly....cache is only big enough for a log sheet so bring a writing utensil! Permission has been granted by the city clerk to place this cache. There is parking near the cache and this should be an easy find. There is a prize for the FTF as well.

The city of Kennedy was named after John Stewart Kennedy who was a native of Scotland. He came to America in 1856 at the age of 20. His connection with Northwest Minnesota came through his business associations with J.J. Hill, railroad tycoon and businessman. Kennedy helped finance several railroads during the American railroad boom. In the 1870s Scandinavian immigrants began to come to the area to take advantage of the U.S. land grants as well as the low priced land sold by the railroads to encourage settlement in the area. Kennedy's history is immersed in farming. Today this vibrant little community is abuzz with activity. It boasts a cafe, bar, bank, post office, elevator, distillery, among others. The school closed several years ago and was known as the Kennedy Rockets. I played many volleyball games there and attended many events in my high school days back in the 80s.

Happy caching!
