Geocache Description:

Woodland location, just off a main path. One for the sure-footed and moderately agile.

Bisham woods are a group of ancient beach woodlands amongst which are some areas previously used for quarrying stone for nearby buildings including Windsor castle.

Lovely all year but particularly well worth a visit in May for the bluebells and occasional rare orchid.

Many trees were lost in the storm of 1987 but subsequent planting and management by the Woodland trust has transformed much of the damaged area.

Kenneth Grahame lived in the dean nearby and it is thought these were the Wild Wood in his book, The Wind in the Willows.

Shelley also wrote parts of his poem Laon and Cynthia whilst on walks (with Mary?) from his house in Marlow.

The cache is a small plastic box and contains some small 'treasures' chosen by 2 little girls who live nearby.

It is hidden just off a bridleway that gets muddy when it rains, and stays muddy most of the Winter. Careful not to slip.

Placed with the kind permission of the Woodland Trust. Parking available at the top of Quarry Wood road (about 1 Km), or further at Cookham Dean Common (about 1.5Km)

Why not CITO?
