Kusakaru Electric railway there was a 18th station of the railroad.
Kitakaruizawa station is one of them.
Station was named "Jizogawa station".
Hosei University village is opend at 1929.
University village donated new station building to Kusakaru Electric Railway.
It was renamed to Kitakaruizawa Station at that time.
The name of the reason is the fact that it was located the name on the north side of Karuizawa.
After the abolition of the railway, most station has disappeared.
The only station building that kept the appearance of the time up to the present is the "Kitakaruizawa station".

北軽井沢駅は草軽電気鉄道の駅です。
すでに鉄道は廃線となっていますが、駅舎は保存されています。
草軽電機鉄道は、大正4年一部開通、大正15年草津～新軽井沢間55.5kmの全線が開通しました。
草軽電鉄には沿線に18の駅がありました。
駅の一つが北軽井沢駅舎です。
駅ができた時は｢地蔵川停留所｣という名前でした。
昭和4年この地区に法政大学村が開村されたことによって、大学村が駅舎を新築し草軽電鉄に寄附しました。
その時に北軽井沢駅という名前に変わりました。
名前の理由は、名称を軽井沢の北側に位置していたことによります。
鉄道の廃止に伴いつぎつぎと駅舎が姿を消していきました。
当時の姿を現在までとどめている唯一の駅舎が｢北軽井沢駅舎｣です。
木造平屋建ての駅舎は、屋根の形が信州の善光寺をモデルにしたという説があります。
正面玄関は和洋折衷形式の斬新なデザインで、欄間には駅を新築した法政大学を示す｢Ｈ｣の文字が白くデザインされています。
この駅舎は、平成17年に改修工事が実施されました。
平成18年には｢国土の歴史的景観に寄与しているもの｣として文化庁より国の｢有形文化財｣に登録されました。
現在駅舎の隣には草軽電気鉄道で活躍した「デキ12型」という電気機関車の木製模型とプラットフォームが設置されています。
駅舎と道を挟んで北軽井沢観光協会があります。
そこには草軽鉄道の写真や資料が展示されています。
