FIRE! FIRE! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Yer_Man: Well, I suppose I knew the day would come sometime, being the nature of this business...
It appears that ALL three of these fire engines have gone to the big fire station in the sky.
An end of an era sighs

Geocache Description:

GZ location is a Scrap Merchants on the way out to Blessington. It is notable due to the Three old Airport Fire Appliances in its front yard.

Having passed this location many times, mainly on the way to caches further afield, I decided to pop in & have a chat with the owner, with a view to getting permission to place a cache here.

The two Fire Appliances that I was interested in were designed by an Irish Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Dr Seamus Timoney.

The two Timoney Foam Crash Trucks (FCT) had been operating at Shannon Airport over the last 27 years and were recently purchased by the scrap dealer. The FCT has a V8 turbo charged engine and is designed to carry 2,000 gallons of water and has a foam capacity of around 800 litres. Both of these vehicles would have been at the very top of the range when they were comissioned in 1980's.

***CONGRATULATIONS ON FTF*** Gaffer Gamgee!!!!!
