The full moon for the month of December is at its fullest at 3:11am on Friday, the 25th.

...and the sun sets at 4:47 pm and the moon rises at 5:31 pm.
This is just about the best night to view the moon at its fullest, after it rises today! Come join us for a meet-n-greet in the evening and to watch the full moon rise over the San Gabriel mountains.
The event begins at 5:00 pm and the event will end by 6:00 pm.
Please do bring your bugs and coins for trading, discovering, or just to show them off. There are no food or beverages nearby, so if it's a little chilly there's usually some hot cocoa, and at recent events people have brought snacks, "other" beverages, and (cold) pizza to share with all. On warm days, there are usually some cold beverages and the pizza stays hot! If you plan on bringing something to share, be sure to post it in a note. Please remember to dress appropriately for the temperature and weather conditions, as this event is outdoors and rain or shine. The terrain is mostly dirt shoulder/pullout parking so wheelchairs may find it difficult, but the location is suitable for handicapped viewing the full moon from a vehicle.
It is interesting to note that often, calendars indicating moon phases may be off by a day when intended for use in a different time zone. Don't be late or you just might miss out on this magical time as the sun sets and the full moon rises.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Round Table Pizza in Claremont @ 598 E. Baseline Rd & Mills Ave. An announcement will be made in this case.
On this day...

- 1999 – The United Nations establishes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to commemorate the murder of three Mirabal sisters for resistance against the Rafael Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic.
Notable births...
- No. Jesus Christ was not born on this day. He was most likely born in September. The day was "picked" to take over the pagan rituals celebrating the winter solstice and rebirth of the sun in the northern hemisphere. We still decorate trees and leave gifts under them, though it was long considered a pagan ritual.
