Welcome to
Decaying Defences - Point Lonsdale
A simple Wherigo highlighting what remains of our coastal defence emplacements at Point Lonsdale. This tour will take you on an exploration through the locations and show what remains and what it was used for.
While Point Lonsdale had always been of strategic defence interest, it was the outbreak of the First Word War which prompted the construction of defence structures in the vicinity of the lighthouse.
Two searchlight emplacements, an electric light directing station and engine house were constructed in 1914 and further defense structures were erected in response to the commencement of the Second World War.
A new concrete emplacement was constructed in 1941and two Mark 6" VII gun emplacements and a fire directing emplacement were added in 1942.
The remains of these installations are still here today and are great to explore of what once was here. Please take your time and compare the photos on the Wherigo cartridge of then and what you see now and see if you can recognise any of the features that remain today
After you've completed this tour, you will then be give the coordiantes for the cache which is very close by near the last emplacement.
