Mount Gowar Scenic Reserve is located between St. Arnaud and Charlton. Being located in a relatively flat region of the world, it offers one of the few elevated views around this region.
The scenic reserve has an area of 64.5ha and was established in September 1987. At the time of hiding this cache, just across from the scenic reserve the construction of some wind turbines has begun. Eventually these will provide power for Canberra!
From this point, standing on a rock or two, you are on Top O The World! You command views of the majority of the surrounding areas. It is rather spectacular to see the sunset from this location. I’ve also sat up here watching a rainstorm come in from the west. But it really doesn’t matter if there is or isn’t a rainstorm, just sit back for a while and watch the world go by. It is an amazing view.
This can be accessed with a two wheel drive vehicle, although I would recommend one with some decent ground clearance. Don’t attempt the ascent via 2WD vehicle after a heavy rain. Mount Gowar can also be walked by anyone of a half-reasonable fitness.
The cache is a 250ml screw top container.
