Geocache Description:

LAUGHARNE COUNTRYSIDE ADVENTURE [3]

- Peak of the Woodland

A small modified nano-cache hidden at the peak of St. Martin's Wood.

LAUGHARNE COUNTRYSIDE ADVENTURE DETAILS:

A 5KM trip through Laugharne countryside, starting at St. Martin's Church and followed by a steep climb through St. Martin's Wood.  At the peak of the woods you will trek through some gorgeous scenic countryside (take a camera!) around the back of Laugharne town, and then you will descend towards the estuary.  After this you will journey through some peaceful woodland hugging the estuary border, and you will emerge at the Dylan Thomas writing shed with some very scenic views.  Finally you will visit the estuary itself at Laugharne waterfront, and then you will take the final leg through Laugharne town, past the famous Browns Hotel, and back to where you started.

Please note that you will require stout footwear to complete the entire series. It involves some very steep climbs and can be wet/slippery underfoot. It is suitable for older children, but little ones would struggle. Also note that the countryside leg of the walk can be a little bit challenging, especially if there is a wet summer. The trek makes use of public footpaths, but the brambles and foliage are very enthusiastic! I complete this walk myself every now and then, and I try to keep it clear. But be prepared to potentially do some clearing of your own!

Hint: FANTASTIC blackberry picking, in season.

Peak of the Woodland

You made it! You will pleased to know that it is mostly downhill from here, and you have a pleasant view of the estuary coming up.

Of course, nothing in life is ever that simple.  You have a little mission to accomplish first!

This cache is guarded by a creature of evil.  The creature is cunning and clever; it skulks about, here and there, and often takes up hide in dark places.  Despite it's rather small size, it has been known to gobble a person up all in one go!!!

Fortunately it tends to sleep during the day, so if you're lucky you may be able to retrieve the cache without disturbing it from its slumber.  If you wake it up, you must IMMEDIATELY wield your magic wand (you did bring it, right?) and bellow the incantation; "VIPERA EVANESCA!!!"

Good luck!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to PlasmaWave on being the first to find on the very day that the series was published. The caches were retrieved by PlasmaWave in extremely difficult weather conditions! We're having a soggy summer.

This cache has been placed with kind permission from the Woodland Trust.
