Sjælden og rig flora
Søen har et meget rigt og varieret plante- og dyreliv, med det største antal plantearter i nogen dansk sø. Blandt disse er den meget sjældne Liden najade (Najas flexilis), som i dag kun findes i Nors Sø. Liden najade er, som navnet antyder, en lille grønbrunlig vandplante med en grenet stængel og meget små blomster. Den kan blive op til 30 cm høj. Bladene er små og smalle, besat med bittesmå torne.
Planten vokser på bunden af søer med sand- eller kalkholdig bund samt klart og næringsfattigt vand. Den trues når tilførslen af næringsstoffer i søen bliver for høj, så andre planter og alger vokser op og kvæler Liden najade.
Planten er fredet og må ikke plukkes, graves op eller ødelægges. I det hele taget er Nors Sø meget sart overfor tilførsel af næringsstoffer, da mange af arterne i søen er tilpasset et næringsfattigt miljø.
Rare and rich flora
The lake has a very rich and diverse flora and fauna, with the largest number of plant species in any Danish lake. Among these are the very rare Liden najade (Naja Flexilis), which today exists only in Nors Lake. Liden najade is, as the name suggests, a small green-brown water plant with a branched stem and tiny flowers. It can grow up to 30 cm high. The leaves are small and narrow, filled with tiny thorns.
The plant grows on the bottom of lakes with sandy or chalky bottom and clear, nutrient-poor water. The threatened when the supply of nutrients in the lake gets too high, so that other plants and algae grow up and strangle Liden najade.
The plant is protected and can not be picked, dug up or destroyed. On the whole, the Nors Lake very sensitive to inputs of nutrients, since many of the species in the lake are adapted to nutrient-poor environment.
