Geocache Description:




Every morning, just before sunrise Hakalai would wake up, and take a stroll down to the roaring waters just below his humble home. This is his favourite time of the day. Under the cover of darkness he does not have to hide and shy away from the world. For the shortest time every day, at this time he would feel happy and free. A few skips along the boulders leads him to the breakers where he would sing some of the old Norwegian folk songs he can remember from his childhood years. The icy waters of the dark Atlantic ocean always feels refreshing against his hard caloused skin.

He knows that as soon as the first ray of sun smudges the dark sky from beyond the mountains nearby he would have to retreat into hiding as he always did, for oh so many years. The life of a troll is not one lived in the limelight as is the case with his human neighbours. He spends his days in the dark shadows of a nearby copse, always hiding away, always taking care that no one spies him when they happen to dwell on the paths that sprawl the foot of the great mountain.  He always regarded humans as a very peculiar species. The kind that could not be trusted or befriended. He can not quite explain why he does not trust them, but for as long as he can remember he kept a healthy distance from them.

But this day would be different. Hakalai sauntered down for his early morning bath with a smile on his face. His guard was down as he did not expect to be suprised at this hour. Never before has any human being dared to venture to this forsaken spot at such an unworldy hour. Cramped between the road and the endless Ocean there is only the smallest band of rocks and that is where you stood. Face to face. You and Hakalai. Human and Troll. Time seemed to freeze. The air strangely hung suspended around the two of you. Even the roar of the water behind you became a silent whimper. Neither you, nor he spoke.

Then the spell got broken, and Hakalai spun around, and bounded away with giant strides. Still in shock and with jelly legs you watch him disappear into a dark black gaping hole. Slowly it dawned on you that this hideous creature must be petrified of you. But you are not the kind that would just walk away from this kind of chance meeting. Something deep inside you tells you that this troll deeply yearns for a friend, and you will reach out, no matter what. Carefully you edge closer to the tunnel, hoping that he would accept your hand of friendship.
