EarthCache Bazeni Kotli
Vidite&
&Snaga tekuce vode izaziva eroziju stijene na koritu i obali rijeke. Erozija moze rijeku uciniti sirom, dubljom ili duzom.
Regresivna erozija cini rijeku duzom.
Vertikalna erozija cini rijecni kanal dubljim.
Bocna erozija cini rijeku sirom.
Trenje
Kako rijeka nosi kamenje dolazi do sudara medju njima, te tijekom tog procesa kamenje postaje sve manje i sve oblije. Zahvaljujuci tome procesu mozemo pronaci lijepe, glatke sljuncane plaze.
Korozija / otapanje
Kada dodje do erozije vapnenackih rijecnih korita, tada dolazi do otpustanja ugljicnog dioksida u vodu. Nakon toga, takve kisele vode polagano otapaju rijecno korito i obalu.
Kako biste logirali ovaj EarthCache trebate uciniti sljedece...
1) Na lokaciji 'Wp 2. bridge viewpoint' promotrite tok i visinu rijeke.
b) Koje formacije stijena mozete vidjeti?
Slobodno ga logirajte kada ga nadjete.
Vase odgovore na pitanja posaljite emailom preko naseg geocaching profila, a mi cemo potvrditi jesu li Vam odgovori tocni.
Molimo, nemojte stavljati Vase odgovore na pitanja u log.
Molimo, stavite koliko god zelite dodatnih fotografiija ovog podrucja. Ono ih zasluzuje.
Vase odgovore na pitanja posaljite emailom preko naseg geocaching profila, a mi cemo potvrditi jesu li Vam odgovori tocni.
P.S: savjetujemo Vam da ponesete svoju opremu za kupanje, jer donji bazen nudi lijepo popodnevno kupanje.
Kotli Pools Earthcache
Welcome to the pools of Kotli.
We visited Kotli and its old watermill whilst on honeymoon and thought the area was amazing.
So amazing that we decided to place an earthcache here so that other folks could share in the amazingness.
This earthcache looks at the formation of the river bed and the pools around the old Kotli watermill.
The rock the river runs through is limestone which has gradually worn away to make the wonderful channels and pools you can see from the bridge waypoint.
How were these channels formed I hear you ask? Well, hopefully you can tell us. You see...
...The force of the running water causes erosion of the stone on the river bed and bank. The resulting erosion can make the river wider, deeper and longer.
Headward erosion makes a river longer.
Vertical erosion makes a river channel deeper.
Lateral erosion makes a river wider.
So now you know the types of erosion let's discuss the processes of erosion. The main processes are;
- hydraulic action
- abrasion / corrasion
- attrition
- corrosion
Hydraulic action
The pressure of the water can break bits off the river bed and its surrounding banks. Because of the force of the river it can be so strong that the river water forces itself into cracks in the bank. The air which was already in the banks gets compressed. As the water and the air compete for space the pressure can build and can lead to the eventual collapse of the river bank.
Abrasion / Corrasion
The detritus which is washed along with river water can rub against the bed and the banks. If there are already dips and troughs on the river bed then some of this detritus can get caught in these dips and spin continuously, turning small holes into big holes.
Attrition
As rocks flow down river they collide with each other, getting smaller and rounder the farther down the river they travel. This is why we find lovely, smooth pebbled beaches. This does not cause erosion of the river bed or bank.
Corrosion / Solution
As the limestone or chalk river beds erode they emit carbon dioxide into the water. These acidic waters slowly dissolve the bed and the bank.
To log this earthcache we require you to ...
1) Head to the 'Wp 2. bridge viewpoint' waypoint, please observe the flow and the height of the river here, how strong is the flow?
2) Head to the 'Wp 3. path down' waypoint and make your way carefully down to the bottom level, from this point take note of the waterfall and its effects on the landscape.
3) Having made these observations please email us the answers to these questions, in English preferably.
a) What colour is the river?
b) What rock formations can you see?
c) Using the information above what processes of erosion are you witnessing?
4) A pic of you and your precious geocache locator device in or near the pools would be appreciated also, whilst not mandatory they do brighten up the cache page.
You must physically visit this cache in order to log it, feel free to log once found.
Email your answers to the question via our profile above and we will confirm if you are correct. Please release your email address when answering so we can reply promptly.
Please do not post your answers to the questions in your log.
Please do post as many other photos (of the area) as you like. It deserves it.
P.s. we suggest taking your swimwear as the bottom pool offers a lovely afternoon swimming!
P.p.s We would like to say a massive thank you to GC Edo for the Croatian translation. It has been much appreciated.
