Geocache Description:

This was placed to highlight this beautiful Natural Rain Garden Project. The cache is a small container (BYOP) hidden just outside the garden. IT IS NOT IN THE GARDEN. The plants are very fragile. Please do not walk on them or anywhere in the garden. Walk aound the perimeter, enjoying the beauty, and you will find it. If you have troube, just check the hint. PLEASE DO NOT WALK IN THE GARDEN. It was placed with permission of Cadillac Library Board.

A rain garden is a shallow depression designed to collect rainwater that runs off surfaces such as roads, parking lots, and roofs. Soil and native plants act a sponges absorbing water. Plant root systems filter and clean the water before it reaches rivers or lakes downstream. This rain garden helps protect Lake Cadillac. This beautiful garden is also a nice example of a "Pollinator Garden" Birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles, and other small mammals that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. They also sustain our ecosystems and produce our natural resources by helping plants reproduce. Without the actions of pollinators agricultural economies, our food supply, and surrounding landscapes would collapse. For more info see www.pollinator.org. Also visit other pollinator gardens in the area: the Garden for Wings in McBain located just east of the High School, the Lakeshore Natural Garden at the west end of the Keith McKellop Walkway on Lake Cadillac and the Missaukee Conservation District garden at 6180 W. Sanborn Rd. in Lake City. All of these have geocaches nearby. Be kind to the plants and flowers; we need them. .
