Geocache Description:

GZ will bring you to the historic Kenmare Hall, 15km west of the Woodanilling townsite.

The Kenmare Hall was a community driven project that came about through the hard work and determination of local volunteers. The hall was officially openened in September of 1921 and hosted many weddings, dances, school lessons and tennis club meetings until the late 1940s.

Sadly from 1945 the hall was no longer used for schooling due to a lack of student numbers and by the late 1950s was falling into disrepair as WW2 took its toll on the main users of the hall - the tennis club. About 50 metres to the south of the hall are the remnants of the two tennis courts.

By the late 2000s the hall was in need of some serious TLC, and with the local Shire unable to aquire funding to make it happen, it came very close to being sold off. As fate would have it, decendants of the community members that first brought the building to life came to its rescue. They reformed the Kenmare Hall Commitee and after 6 years of hard work, returned the building to its former glory.

Today it is still used to hold functions but as a "nod to a bygone era" remains without electricity. It does, however, have one of the nicest outdoor drop loos you're ever likely to see!
