Geocache Description:

THIS IS A LARGE CACHE SO PLEASE DO NOT GO AFTER IT IF YOU AREN'T WILLING TO SPEND SOME TIME CONCEALING THE CACHE WHEN FINISHED. I planted a tribute cache about 8 years ago but it has gone missing twice so I created a copy of the copy and hopefully have a safer location.

This cache is a tribute to the world's first geocache placed by Dave Ulmer on May 5, 2000 in Oregon. There is a plaque in cement at that location which is southeast of Oregon City. If you consider yourself a serious geocacher you should at least read about this first cache here, which is the page for ORIGINAL STASH TRIBUTE PLAQUE geocache. Lots of information there and if you are in the Portland area with a little time you owe it to yourself to visit the tribute plaque and cache which are about 20 minutes off I-205. I thought my pilgrimage there was pretty neat and it is usually full of travel bugs.

In addition there are two short video clips that are worth seeing. One is the placing of the plaque for the original cache which includes a shot of Dave Ulmer. The second one is amazing in that Dave Ulmer films himself in 2000 showing the contents and logbook for the first cache. You can download those short videos on YouTube. He had just a small inkling of the what he was about to create.

So, this cache is a tribute to that first cache. It shouldn't be too hard to find since it is patterned after the original container. While his was buried, mine is not.

Park in the parking lot, do not drive up the paved road.
