Geocache Description:

Nau mai. Haere mai (Welcome)... In Maori, a waharoa is a gateway. So what better place could there be to place a letterbox, than at one of the main gateways to Rotorua. Highway 5 heads east, and crosses the Mamaku Ranges before descending to Lake Rotorua. You are welcome to stop and view the Lake from this high vantage point.

Parking: It is better to approach this cache as you head toward Rotorua. There is a driveway into a paddock and it should be safe enough to park there temporarily. As this is a main highway, please exercise caution by supervising children and any attending pets.

Note: There is no need to bush bash through the flax, nor should anyone need to approach ground zone by walking through the plantings. Follow the fence line up to the cache. Please return the container exactly as found to prevent unnecessarily entering into the flax.

The Cache: The container should be big enough to find unassisted. Hence, a hint is not necessary.

This is a straight forward Letterbox Hybrid Cache. Please note the following conditions:

  • There are two self-inking stamps in a separate box. These are not for trade, so DO NOT REMOVE these items. These stamps are for your personal letterboxing notebook.
  • Use the notebook labelled 'Letterbox' if you wish to log your visit with your personal stamp. Otherwise...
  • Use the 'Logbook' notebook to sign as you would, a normal geocache.
  • Have fun... The container is big enough to handle large swaps and TBs.

Please bring your own pen/cil when visiting.
