Geocache Description:

Nimmitabel is a lovely little town but without a fuel station its too easy to drive straight through. This is my 2nd cache in Nimmitabel, and only the 3rd for the town. Hopefully you'll stop by and learn what this little town has has to offer.

The cache is placed here specifically to get you break your drive, stretch your legs  and introduce you to Lake Williams. Lake Williams and the surrounding park were created by the New South Wales Department of Public Works, Cooma-Monaro Shire Council and the Lions Club of Nimmitabel for the benefit of the Nimmitabel Community.

The name commemorates the contribution to many district organisations by members of the pioneer Williams family, descendants of John and Sarah Williams, who settled on this land in 1839. The portion of Crown Land was reserved in Nimmitabel’s town plan for Public Recreation and Water Supply. Lake Williams was officially opened on Australia Day 1994.

There is plenty of parking, plus a BBQ, picnic tables and toilets. The lake itself is charming, and after finding this cache I hope you'll come back here for a stop and stretch. You can expect to take a 10 minute return journey for this cache - an easy walk, and the cache is large enough for trading items for geokids. There are a few prickles and rocks not far from the GZ so be careful at night.
