Geocache Description:

This montage of Camberley scenes, painted by local artist Paul Culshaw, is reproduced with the kind permission of Surrey Heath Museum.

This multi takes you on a constitutional ("a regular walk taken for the benefit of one's health”) around Camberley, and will test your observational skills. Apart from the start, the precise location of each place where you will need to answer a question is not given.  However,  if you follow the route described you should be able to first spot where the photographs were taken, and then answer the questions relating to those photographs, even if not all are absolutely adjacent to the pavements. The instructions are written in such a way that you will quickly know if you have missed a waypoint.

There is some free parking available in Park Road, which is a convenient place to start the walk, and should not leave you too far to stroll back to the car upon completion.  However, it can get quite busy with commuter car parking on weekdays.

Starting at the given coordinates:-

Question 1 - What is the first digit of the S.C.C. number on this house, which is a Grade II listed building by Sir Edwin Lutyens, dating from 1898? Answer = A

Continue to walk down Park Street on the same side of the road.

Question 2 - What digit appears to the left of the 4? Answer = B

Continue on down Park Street and go right at the roundabout into Pembroke Broadway, walking along the northern side of this road and leaving Camberley Station to your right. Cross over the High Street, turn left along Knoll Road and cross by the pedestrian crossing. A few yards to the south you will now find the answer to the next question.

Question 3 - What is the first of the two missing digits on the second line of the sign shown? Answer = C

Retrace your steps marginally and continue to walk northwards on the eastern side of Knoll Road. If you look across the road to the left you will see the building occupied by Charles Church (now a brand of Persimmon Homes), a well-known local house builder whose eponymous founder was sadly killed when the Spitfire that he was piloting crashed near Blackbushe, a few miles west of Camberley.

Question 4 - How many letters in the name of the ward which is shown as being due west? Answer = D

Close by you will also see a notable sculpture and from the plaque at its base be able to answer the next question.

Question 5 - What is the first digit of the day on which the sculpture was unveiled? Answer = E

Cross over Knoll Road and walk along the road which is almost immediately opposite (this is St George’s Road, although no road sign appears until the far end). Turn right up High Street but do not immediately cross this street.

Question 6 – Where is Men’s World At? (number of letters in the answer). Answer = F

Having answered question 6 cross the High Street at a convenient point, turn the corner onto London Road and continue walking westwards until after you pass Park Street. You will then see on your right one of the most famous landmarks in Camberley, the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst; it is the British Army's initial officer training centre, commonly known simply as "Sandhurst".

Question 7 - Behind where the photo of Sandhurst College was taken from there is a road junction (A30 and another road), and on the corner there is a green box alongside a road name sign. What is the first of the two numbers written in white on the front of the box? Answer = G

Continue onwards and cross Lower Charles Street.

Question 8 – Just to the left of the foundation stone pictured note the final digit of the year in which the priest (M.R.) died. Answer = H

Continue westwards and cross Grand Avenue, then immediately turn left down this road leaving the Leisure Centre on your right. Although you will soon see the subject of the next photo, you will need to walk a few yards to answer the question.

Question 9 – Note for how many years the general was a much respected resident (answer is the first digit only). Answer = I (The memorial fountain is currently inaccessible as a result of major building works; I = 4)

If the park is open walk diagonally through the park from the first entrance, passing the pavilion and exiting onto Southwell Park Road between the tennis courts and the bowling green. If you walk this way then cross Southwell Park Road and turn left.

Alternatively, if the park is closed, continue walking down Grand Avenue, leaving the park on your right, cross Southwell Park Road and immediately turn right down this road, but do not go past France Hill Drive.

Question 10 – What time p.m. on Wednesday? Answer = J

Now walk along (or back along) Southwell Park Road, in an easterly direction, turning right back up Park Street at the roundabout. Cross Park Street at a safe point and continue heading southwards down this street until the next roundabout where you will need to turn left along Park Road, but without crossing this road. You will be able to answer the final question well before you reach the next roundabout.

Question 11 - Add the three digits together at this point. Answer = K

You now have all the information you need to be able to locate the cache.

The checksum for A to K is 57.
