Geocache Description:

The Georgia Geocachers Association July meeting will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2002, from 3:00 PM till 5:00 PM EDT.

The July GGA Event Cache will not be a traditional event. We are going to take the opportunity at this meeting to gather at the location of the upcoming GGA Event Challenge. We will have a short presentation, and then we will be off on an interesting adventure.

The coordinates for the July Meeting will take you to a pay box for the park. We will meet briefly near this location. It will cost $2.00 to park, or you can use your yearly GA Parks Pass. You can purchase a yearly GA Parks Pass before the meeting at the main park office at approximately N33° 59.050' W83° 44.014' for $25.00. This is an approximate coordinate taken from TopoZone, but the office is near the main road at the main entrance to the park. It is on the east side of the main road. The GGA encourages you to pay an additional $10.00 for the "Friends" Park Pass, and that additional money will stay at this park to help them directly! Our July meeting is not near the main park office, so use the coordinates above to find the members and the meeting!

This will be a good chance for you to see the location for the GGA Challenge -- "Five Cache Stud". We are going to look over the area and scout areas for cache placement. This will give people who have not placed a cache the ability to see the process of hiding a cache. We have done some preliminary scouting, and we want to do some additional scouting with GGA members. We have identified some areas for potential caches, and we want to explore these areas in more detail on foot. Some potential areas will be identified, but cache placing volunteers will have the final say on the locations the day of the event.

We will be using hidden coded cards as caches during the event. These cards will represent a "cache". We have identified six sections that will be used for cache placement.

Be prepared to hike though the area. We will not get deep into the sections, but we will walk approximately 2 to 3 miles. The terrain is generally level with one hill that leads down to the lake. Attendees may walk as much or as little of the area as they wish. This should prove to be an interesting learning experience if you are wanting to see what the cache hiding experience is all about. We will also get to swap some good stories in an informal traveling meeting!

If you are late, walk north from the pay station to the two power line cuts and look for the group wandering around!
