The Brownlow Medal was formally Charles Brownlow Trophy.
It is a individual award given to a player who is judged to be the fairest and best player in the Australian Football League
during the regular season.
This is decided by votes by the officiating umpires after each game.
The Medal has been awarded every year since 1924 with the exceptionof an intermission from 1942 - 1945 due to World War 2.
P{layers are ineligible to win the Medal if they have been suspended for on field offences.
The 1953 Brownlow Medal was won by Bill Hutchinson from the Essendon [Bombers] Football Team.
He had 26 votes.
