Geocache Description:

William Creek was named in November 1859 by explorer John McDouall Stuart during his expeditions in the area. William was the second son of John Chambers, a pioneer pastoralist of South Australia and a strong ally of Stuart.

William Creek is located halfway on the Oodnadatta Track, 210 kilometres north of Marree and 166 kilometres east of Coober Pedy in South Australia.  William Creek is one of the smallest towns in Australia with a population of less than twenty people.  It is situated on the world's largest working cattle station – 24,000 square kilometre Anna Creek Station, which was part of the S Kidman & Co empire.  The hotel is one of the most remote hotels in the country, but is full of outback atmosphere.

Visit this outback town and soak up the unique atmosphere.

William Creek is as close as civilisation gets to Eyre Creek.  You have the opportunity to take a flight over the outback cattle stations and Lake Eyre.  Alternatevly use a 4 wheel drive to get to Halligan Bay on the eastern edge of Lake Eyre.  Camp overnight to watch the sunrise over the (usually) dry salt lake.  Lake Eyre is stunning whether wet or dry!
