Spring Gully National Park has ties to our Family. Way back in the 1960’s is when it all began when the Government set aside 15 acres of land purchased from a Mr G.C.Q. Nottage in 1960 . Then in 1964, 701acres from Mr S.L Wayman of Sevenhill. Also another 84acres was purchased in 1968 from Mrs S.H.Freebairn of Snowtown.
In April 1968 Former Minister of Lands Mr P.H.Quirke commented stating the Proclamation of the Area as a National Park. (Vicky! Yes me! was barely a Month old when the park was announced as a National Park.) So it was then officially Proclaimed By Sir Edric Bastyan that the Park was under control of National Parks commission headquarters at Belair in the Adelaide Hills.
The main purpose of this park was due to The Red Stringy Bark ( Eucalyptus Maccurorhycha) as this was the only kind in the State of SA. Native fauna and flora in the area of wild flowers ,Grey Kangaroos. Euros and other Native animals in the area.
Original there were gates to the park which there was tracks which were able to be driven on so people could drive as near to the water fall in the park and walk a short distance. Its a Recreation Park with Picnic areas so you are able to enjoy being out in nature.
But over the years the gates have closed in areas so you are now required to walk the Tracks and enjoy nature at its best.
Over the years the tracks have been named after some of the previous land owners out of respect, a connection to our family. One track named after My Grandfather Mr Stanislaus. Leo. Wayman. The Wyman walking Trail, as this is passed down through family history.
