Starlite came up with an idea of a series to do with Fire Stations, though I'm not sure if this is because she admires the great work the fire services do, because she likes driving fire engines (The background is actually her driving one!) or if it is because she likes blowing kisses at every fire station & fire engine that she sees!!
The earliest record of fire-fighting equipment in Loughborough – leather buckets – dates from 1592, when the population was around 2,000.
Just a few weeks after the Great Fire of London in October 1666, Loughborough was hit by the worst fire in its history, destroying over 200 houses – had the wind not turned, the whole town would have gone up in smoke. As if this wasn't bad enough, the following year, the town suffered further fires.
So notorious were Loughborough's fires, in 1720, the Magna Britannica recorded: "of late years, it has undergone many calamities by fire, insomuch that it hath been almost quite destroyed by this merciless element." Leicestershire historian John Nichols, writing 80 years later, said Loughborough "hath been much diminished by fire". After the two fires of 1666-7, there was a determination to improve the town's ability to deal with fires and a home-made fire engine was built. However, a further 18 years passed before an engine was bought "in readiness on any sudden alarm."
In 1866 a station was built on Ashby Road. It wasn't until 1887 that the town's first steam fire engine is purchased after the destruction of the Nottingham manufacturing Company in a fire. In 1931 A new station was built on Bridge street. This was until 1974 when the current station here on Epinal Way was built.
Loughborough fire station is part of Leicestershire FRS. The station has a call sign of S20 and has a rescue pump, water ladder & carrier, a general purpose vehicle and a Detection, Identification & Monitoring vehicle for hemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense
The Cache
The cache is located at N52 4A.BCD W001 1E.FGH Where
A=X
B=Y+R
C=T
D=S
E=R+T
F=Y+T+R
G=Z+R
H=Z-X+R
To find the location you need to visit the fire station and answer 4 easy questions.
How many appliance doors does the fire station have? = X
How many windows are in each appliance door? = Z
At the main road side entrance there are Y red hydrants.
Also on the main road side there is a yellow hydrant sign on the building. At the bottom of this sign is RST22
Good luck
