Beginning of this shrine is that Shogun Sakanoueno Tamuramaro prayed a victory in 789. At that time, he worshiped the big tree of wisteria as object of worship.
In 1654, this shrine has been rebuilt from the east about 1km to the current location. In precincts, there are two large Deva kings statue about 3.6m high, which is said to work before the reconstruction.

この神社には，789年に，征夷大将軍坂上田村麻呂が戦勝祈願したのが始まりとされています。その時，藤の巨木を神体として祀ったそうです。
1654年，1kmほど東の地から現在地に再建されました。境内には，高さ約3.6mもある大きな仁王像がありますが，これは再建以前の作と伝えられています。
