Melchtal
Melchtal ist die Bezeichnung für das Tal der Grossen Melchaa im Kanton Obwalden in der Schweiz und eine gleichnamige Ortschaft.
Der Ort Melchtal liegt auf 890 m Höhe und gehört fast vollständig zur politischen Gemeinde Kerns. Die Melchaa bildet die Grenze zu Sachseln, und somit gehören die wenigen Häuser westlich der Melchaa zu Flüeli-Ranft. Bekannt ist der Name auch als vermeintlicher Herkunftsort des Arnold von Melchtal, der im Gründungsmythos der Schweiz als einer von drei Gründervätern auftaucht.
Das Melchtal verläuft in süd-nördlicher Richtung und wird im Norden durch eine Schlucht abgeschlossen, die auf der Höhe der Ortschaft Flüeli-Ranft auch Ranftschlucht genannt wird und ein Stück weiter von der Hohen Brücke überspannt wird. Zahlreiche Touristen durchfahren das Tal von Kerns zur Stöckalp, von wo eine Seilbahn und im Sommer auch eine Bergstrasse zum Sommer- und Wintersportort Melchsee-Frutt führt.

Melchtal
Melchtal is the name given to the valley of the river Great Melchaa in the Canton of Obwalden in Switzerland and an eponymous village.
The village Melchtal is at 890 meters above sea level and almost completely belongs to the political community Kerns. The Melchaa forms the border to Sachseln, and thus the few houses west of Melchaa belong to Flüeli-Ranft. The name is also known as the supposed origin of Arnold von Melchtal, who appears in the founding myth of Switzerland as one of three founding fathers.
The Melchtal runs from south to north direction, and will be completed in the north through a gorge that is also called Ranft gorge. Just a bit further up the gorge is spanned by the High Bridge. Many tourists pass through the valley from Kerns to the Stöckalp, where a cableway and in summertime a mountain road leads towards the ski and summer resort Melchsee-Frutt.
