Geocache Description:

This cache will help take you back to one of the oldest cemeteries in New Egypt. Look for the american flag next to grave sites, which mark war veterans. Some of the grave stones are still discernible while others might just look like rocks.

The Zour Cemetery is the resting place of many of our oldest settlers. It is a part of the United Methodist Church. Wooden and marble markers were discernible as late as 1930. As of late, the stones have been overturned or covered by debris, and the wooden markers rotted away. The Zoar church was built near the grave yard on a hill in 1809. It was a plank sided building with a double doored entrance with windows on either side. In the church and to the side was a stairway which lead to a balcony where cubicle sized rooms were located for classes. The downstairs was the assembly room. At 78 Brown lane the parsonage and church school for the Zoar Church is located. The house went through extensive modernization when Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Stevens bought the property as a retirement home.
