Il "Teatrino Scientifico" di Mantova
Il Teatro Teatro Bibiena (o Teatro Scientifico dell'Accademia), fu realizzato da Antonio Bibbiena nel 1767-69 e decorato, nel 1773-75, con una facciata del Piermarini realizzata da Paolo Pozzo.
Al posto del teatro un tempo sorgeva il palazzo di Cesare Gonzaga Conte di Guastalla. Questi fondò ed ospitò l'”Accademia degli Invaghiti” che dal 1610 si chiamò “Accademia degli Invitti” .. e dal 1648 “Accademia dei Timidi”.
Il Bibiena demolì il teatrino cinquecentesco e progettò una scena fissa, alle cui spalle edificò due corridoi sovrapposti a formare un loggiato a due piani. La platea ebbe un disegno a campana, che produce la sensazione di un ambiente circolare.
Il nuovo teatro venne inaugurato il 3 dicembre 1769. Venne detto “Teatro Scientifico”, poiché doveva ospitare riunioni accademiche di istruzione ed educazione, in linea con le finalità dell’Accademia e lo spirito illuministico dell’epoca.
Poche settimane dopo l’inaugurazione, il 16 gennaio 1770, ospitò un concerto pianistico del giovane Mozart (13 anni); l’edificio suscitò il compiacimento del Mozart padre, il quale scrisse da Mantova alla moglie: "Oggi ho visto il teatro più bello del mondo".
