Geocache Description:

The Bec Pio Merlo is a very distinctive stone pinnacle above Breuil-Cervinia. You have a stunning 270° view of the Gran Balconata Cervino and the Breuil-Cervinia valley as well as the ski area. I recommend starting from the top station of the Salette cable car from Valtournenche instead of walking up from Cervinia via the ski slopes as this is a much nicer hike. Alternatively, you can start from Plan Maison via Lago Goillet and follow the abandoned railway tracks of the "tracciolino" which was used to build the dam. On both itineraries you pass "La Guardia", a very nice view point at Alpe Promindoz which was visited in 2000 by Pope John Paul II.

For the final location you need to find the following information:

1. Metal flag on the top - number on the right = ABCD

2. Metal flag on the top - number in the lower left corner = EFGH

3. Summit register (the front of the case, not the book itself) - altitude in meters = IJKL

4. Metall cross next to Bec Pio Merlo - number on the right = MNOP

Final: N45° 55.(G-A)H(H+G+E)' E7° 38.(E+G)(H-A)(J+A+L)

To reach the top you need to climb the last 10m. The climbing is pretty easy (Grade 2) but I recommend to bring a short rope (20-30m). There is a fixed maillon which you can use to abseil down.
