Old Coastguard Lookout / The Crackers
Welcome to the old coastguard lookout, which has been abandoned for many years. It once formed part of a network of visual lookout stations that circled the British coast. Today it can be easily missed as you can only see the flat roof from the main path.
The coastguard station was positioned here due to the site's great view over the southern and western sides of Mounts Bay. It is because of these great views that we have brought you here today.
The rocks by the path to the west of the station are known as The Crackers and share these great views of the bay. There is a seat at The Crackers. There is a second stone seat a short distance back along the path to Mousehole.
You will need to leave the main path for this hunt however you do not need to get within touching distance or enter the structure of the coastguard station. The structure may well be dangerous and unstable after many years of dereliction.
For a circular route along this coastal path from Mousehole to Lamorna and then back to Mousehole across the fields, follow this link http://www.iwalkcornwall.co.uk/walk/mousehole_to_lamorna_cove
