Geocache Description:

This is the centre of Hoon Hay and oh so busy all day so you will need to be very careful locating the cache. BYO Pen please.

Hoon Hay is an outer suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, lying approximately 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) southwest of Cathedral Square, close to the Port Hills. It is named after a village in Derbyshire. Hillmorton and Spreydon lie to the north. Somerfield is to the east and Cashmere to the southeast. The hill suburb of Westmorland was developed to the south during the 1980s. To the west lies farmland then Halswell. Hoon Hay valley is a rural valley approximately 2 km southwest of the suburb. Cashmere Stream, a tributary of the Heathcote River, flows down the valley.

I believe Hoon Hay Road follows an old bank from when the Waimakariri River flowed through here once.
Geological evidence indicates that the river mouth has been very mobile, at times flowing through the current location of Christchurch and even flowing into Lake Ellesmere / Te Waihora south of Banks Peninsula for a time.
