Green lagoon and white sand - Hit the beach Traditional Geocache

This cache hunt will take you to one of my favourite places for swimming and sunbathing along the beautiful Nadiža river. Although it can get quite crowded here on hot summer days, it is still some sort of an insider's tip (mostly known to locals). You will not find this place in any of the official tourist guides.

Here the green turquoise water has carved out an impressive little gorge with many pools suitable for swimming, some of them deep enough to take a header. Sunbathers will find some stone (and even a few white sand!) beaches in between the walls of the gorge.

By the way, did you know that Nadiža is one of the cleanest and warmest alpine rivers, and her waters supposedly (according to local folklore) heal wounds and other ailments. And her quiet flow makes it even more suitable for swimming.

So what are you waiting for? Hit the beach and enjoy some feel good beach life in this green lagoon! And find a geocache as added value!

Important information:

GPS signal can be quite weak inside the gorge. If in doubt, consult the hint and/or spoiler pic.

During summer there are lots of muggles here. But you will always find a place for your towel, if not on the beach, then a little bit higher on some big rocks.

Please search in maximum stealth mode and put the cache back the same way as you found it! Use some natural camouflage. There is plenty of material available.

Directions how to get to the lagoon:

The easiest way to reach the lagoon and the cache is by bike or on foot from Podbela or Robič. Leave your car in one of the official parking lots in Robič or Podbela.

Attention: The Kobarid municipality has implemented a strict parking regime by the river Nadiža. There are a few maintained parking lots by the river bank; a parking fee applies during high tourist season in June, July and August. During my last visit the authorities carried out many controls. So, rather pay the little fee and avoid getting a costly parking violation ticket.

From the parking lot cycle or walk along the Nadiža. There is an official, marked bike trail that connects Robič (close to the Italian border) with Podbela. Once you have reached the suspension bridge (see given waypoint), go down to the river, cross it, and walk upstream on the left river bank (seen from the bridge) to ground zero. If you do not want to get your feet wet, you can also go over the bridge (to the side where the cache is hidden) and take a little trail. Go right after you have reached the other side. From the cache site you can already see the white sand beach and also a part of the green lagoon (see attached pictures). To enjoy it in all its beauty you have to swim around the corner. Highly recommended refreshment, but only in summer!
