Dale was a snail. He was a land snail, not a water snail. He was also an unusual snail, and he was Tom’s son, which in turn explains why he was unusual - not in being Tom’s offspring, but rather the fact that he was convinced he was a ‘son’, despite incontrovertible scientific evidence that snails are hermaphrodites. Dale was having none of it. Every day he would bombard Tom with the same old questions. Why am I the largest snail? Why am I the fastest snail? In fact, why am I the smartest snail? This must prove that I am a male surely? (Dale wasn’t known for his Political Correctness.) Tom would shake his antennae in despair. Why, why, why, Dale - always questions. I do believe there’s been a why in you since the day you were born. If you think you’re so clever, answer this or leave me in peace - what was the date on the Thursday before you were born - DD MM YYYY? (AB CD EFGH).
