I've wanted to place a cache around here since I first hiked to the end of the trail several years ago. If you choose to take the road, it's a little less than 1.5 miles from the main gate. If you chose to take the trail, it's a 1.5 mile hike from where the trail crosses the road just inside the main gate. If you come by water, you can get close if the lake is up.
Those of you hearty enough to seek this cache likely know the drill about where to park: either in the horse trailer parking lot outside the main park entrance or next to (not in front of) the closed gate when the park is closed, like it usually is. If the park ever opens again there will likely be a fee to drive in and park somewhere closer. You can avoid the fee by parking in the horse trailer lot and taking the trail.
The day I hid the cache the restrooms nearby inexplicably had electricity, but the men's room entrance looked like a scene from the movie Arachnophobia.
