12-10-10 UPDATE: If you are an "armchair cacher" that has found the answer to this virtual without physically visiting, don't bother to post your "find". I will delete any claims that appear to be bogus or represent a claim from a cacher that did not physically visit the coordinates. I drove all the way out here to set up this cache, you can too! KK
In September, 2000, National Geographic Magazine began a series of articles called ZipUSA. Each article would focus on a unique place in the USA. Those covered have included the famous - 90210; and the cool - 99705 (North Pole Alaska).
The inaugural zipcode for the series was 79754. Mentone, Texas.
Mentone is the County Seat for Loving County, Texas. With about 70 folks, Loving has the least population of any county in the lower 48 states. Mentone boasts about 15 of those folks.
Here is a link to the National Geographic article on 79754.
When you go to Mentone, be sure and check out the automatic flagpole at the courthouse!!!
To claim this cache, you must email us with the answer to this question:
What was Lee White's specific position in 1935? The answer can be found close to the coordinates.
DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWER ON THE CACHE PAGE, EVEN IF ENCRYPTED! Posts that have not been preceded by the correct answer will be deleted.
Please note: If we answer your claim email and receive a automated return requiring verification of our email address, we do not respond to those as a matter of course. Some of those services are nothing but address harvesters and we choose not reply to them.
Enjoy your visit to Loving County!
