Geocache Description:

A series of caches meant to provide a little information about my favourite equine - the donkey:-) All of the donkeys in the photos on the cache pages can be found living nearby at The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada.

People often incorrectly believe that donkeys can be bought, turned out to pasture and left to graze on whatever is available, with little thought given to the dietary needs of the animal. Donkeys who are fed inappropriate amounts or kinds of food can put on weight very quickly. This can lead to lameness and fallen crests. Fat builds up along the crest of the neck and once it becomes too heavy, the neck roll falls over creating an unsightly malformation. This roll of fat is incredibly difficult to reduce once it has formed and so many donkeys will live with it for the remainder of their lives once it has formed.

Meegers with a fallen crest.
