Suiina Cemetary
Once Sulina was an important port. It still is the most easterly town in Europe.
The most magnificent tombs are donated by the European Commission. Long before the Second World War, there was, at the end of Europe, a European Commission. The Commission was established 1856 in Paris after the attempts to prevail the Danube area conducted too many wars. The Commission's role was that the three Danube ports are clean and navigable. The Danube flows through nine European countries before emptying into the Danube Delta in Romania and has been for a long time one of the major trade routes of Europe. The rules that have been set up in Sulina, influenced the whole of Europe. The idea that different countries had to work together in a supranational way was completely new, the European Danube Commission existed for 82 years until the Second World War.
Despite the strict hand of the Commission, a pirate hided himself in the branched channels of the Delta. He attacked the passing ships and shared the profits then with his brother, a singer in the church and very faithful. When the greek pirate was shot at the by Russians, his brother built him a white stone memorial at the graveyard. Instead of photos (as usual on all the other stones) two bones are crossing beneath a skull. On the grave stone wakes an evil angel. So everyone will be recalled that evil persons get an evil angel after death.
A few graves further lies a princess. Rumor has it a romance brought her to the vibrant port city and no one knows why she sodies suddenly, after only a few years in the city. Her grave is made of white marble. Almost all other graves adorn pictures of dead people, the beauty of the princess is left to our imagination.

Einst war Sulina ein wichtiger Hafen. Noch immer ist es die östlichste Stadt Europas.
Die prächtigsten Gräber sind gestiftet von der Europäischen Kommission. Schon lange vor dem zweiten Weltkrieg gab es hier, am Ende Europas, eine Europäische Kommission. Die Gründung der Kommission wurde 1856 in Paris beschlossen, nachdem das Bestreben über die Donau zu herrschen zu vielen Kriegen geführt hatte. Die Aufgabe der Kommission war dass die drei Donaumündungen sauber und schiffbar sind. Die Donau durchfließt neun europäische Länder bevor sie in Rumänien ins Donaudelta mündet und war lange Zeit einer der wichtigsten Handelswege Europa. Die Regeln, die in Sulina aufgestellt wurden, beeinflussten ganz Europa. Die Idee, dass verschiedene Staaten supranational zusammenarbeiten war damals völlig neu, die Europäische Donau-Kommission existierte 82 Jahre lang bis zum zweiten Weltkrieg.
Trotz des strengen Hand der Kommission versteckte sich ein Pirat in den verzweigten Kanälen des Deltas. Er überfiel die vorbeifahrenden Schiffe und teilte den Gewinn anschließend mit seinem Bruder. Dieser war Sänger in der Kirche und lammfromm. Als der griechische Pirat am Nationaltag der Griechen von den Russen erschossen wurde, baute sein Bruder ihm ein Mahnmal aus weißem Stein auf den Friedhof. Statt eines Fotos, wie auf den anderen Steinen üblich, kreuzen sich zwei Knochen unter einem Totenschädel. Auf dem Grabstein wacht ein böser Engel. Darauf hat die Kirche bestanden damit daran erinnert wird, wer böses tut, den erwartet nach dem Tode ein böser Engel.
Nur wenige Gräber weiter liegt eine Prinzessin. Man munkelt eine Romanze brachte sie in die pulsierende Hafenstadt und niemand weiß woran sie so plötzlich nach nur wenigen Jahren in der Stadt starb. Auch ihr Grab ist aus weißem Marmor. Fast alle anderen Gräber zieren Fotos der Verstorbenen, die Schönheit der Prinzessin aber bleibt den Legenden und der Phantasie überlassen.
