My fellow Americans, they no longer serve coffee Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

wncsteph: This area has changed so much that it doesn't look the same as it did when the movie was filmed. That and the disgusting amount of trash makes this an undesirable caching location. Thanks to all who visited!

Geocache Description:

Listed coordinates are for a filming location seen in the 1996 film "My Fellow Americans" starring James Garner, Jack Lemmon, & Dan Aykroyd. This used to be a restaurant but is now a different type of business. If you park at listed coordinates you can still see some of the film locations in the parking lot, intersection, & nearby buildings. Then proceed approx. 150 ft southeast to find the cache. You are looking for a small container hidden within something else.

**Cache is not at listed coordinates. Cache is located approximately 150 feet southeast of the listed coordinates.**

The 1996 movie "My Fellow Americans" was filmed partly in Waynesville and Asheville, NC. One particular scene was filmed in what was then a fast food restaurant in Waynesville. In the scene, the two ex-Presidents, played by James Garner and Jack Lemmon, are trying to escape some bad guys but they stop for a coffee break. The character played by James Garner goes inside for a bathroom break and can be seen coming out the side of this building.

The bad guys of course, catch up to them, and if you park at the given coordinates and look back to the intersection, you can see where the bad guys turn in, driving a black car. The next few scenes of the film take place here in this parking lot. As the two ex-Presidents try to get away, their car rams into a large clown sign which becomes lodged into their windshield. Their car pulls out into Russ Avenue and heads southwest toward Hwy 23/74. It is easy to recognize Russ avenue and nearby businesses as they careen down the highway, eventually dislodging the clown as they drive away. The next scene shows the car coming over a hill, which was actually filmed in downtown Asheville instead of Waynesville.

It is not necessary to watch "My Fellow Americans" to find this cache. All you have to do is go to the listed coordinates (which is the best place to see if you recognize any movie locations), then go approximately 150 feet southeast to the actual cache.

Please check out the photo gallery for scenes from the movie that might be identifiable near GZ. "My Fellow Americans" is owned and copyrighted by Warner Bros.
