This cache was set with a few other caches on Sugar Island. A friend of our family [Carolyn ,who was raised on the island] showed me some sites and history/stories of the spots. The island has its own way of life and unique history. Our family has been going there for 40+ years and still learn new history stories. You are required to take your vehicle over by ferry so you will have a round trip fee.You pay leaving the mainland but not coming off the island.
The site you are brought to has an old hand water pump that used to be the site of the Brasser school. The pump is very fragile so please take pictures but don’t touch. Cache is in the area but not on the pump. The school was a one room schoolhouse serving K-8. The heat was a woodstove in the school. In the winter the students were each required to bring a canned good to put in a pot on the woodstove to simmer all morning for their “school lunch”. The lady in the house across the road has been informed of what we are doing. She thought it was great but worried about any damage coming to the pump.
