A Birds eye view of Wallsend Research Station Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

C's: For anyone that may be interested. I've been meaning to replace this one but have not had a chance and it looks as though I would have a chance in the near future either so felt that it was time to archive this one hopefully I'll get it replaced at some point.

Thankyou to all the visitors.

Geocache Description:

This cache should be an easy find (not so easy to get) it is on  part of the Hadrian's Cycleway Route.Northtyneside council has asked us to remind cachers to obey the Countryside Code : https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/338299/countryside-code.pdf

Due south of the cache is the site of the Wallsend Research Station.  Wallsend Research Station was the site of the creation of Charles Parsons' steam turbine in 1884. Parsons' Marine Turbine Company at Wallsend built the Turbinia as part of their marint propulsion works. The Parsons and Marine Engineering Turbine Research and Development Association (PAMETRADA) was founded in May 1944. The main aim of this research association was to carry out shore-based tests on turbine machinery gearing, boilers and auxiliaries. At the time, PAMETRADA was based at two separate premises: Parsons Marine office block and the first floor of the ‘Coach and Horses’ public house at the eastern end of Wallsend High Street. On 12th August 1946 the official opening of the purpose-built Wallsend Research Station at Davy Bank took place, beginning a lifespan of over 40 years on site. During this time PAMETRADA’s contribution to the Maritime industry was world-class, including the design and creation of the tail-end turbines of the QE2. In 1985 a new association was formed called British Maritime Technology that continued along the same path PAMETRADA began. The site is now Oceana Business Park and is still home to some world leading engineering companies such as SMD but also is used as a film set in a number of TV programmes such as Vera and Geordie Shore(please don't let this put you off) the film United and many others.

The cache is a disco cache in plain sight.

Don't forget pen and tweezers.

This is now a more traditional disco cache as the original was destroyed.
