Top 'O De Hill Pota Gold Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Mixed with the wild horses in Storey County, enjoy some great scenery in some rugged country.
Don’t let our rating for this cache scare you off. We know how to get to this location, so even without GPS, it’s easy for us. Given all of the roads in the area, we thought it might be difficult for others to find the cache so we are giving some extra points for that contingency. You can get to this area on roads that are wide enough to accommodate full size SUV’s without scraping the sides on sagebrush.
Even more so than our last cache, this one requires a decent amount of ground clearance to negotiate rough roads. During dry weather, you shouldn’t need 4 wheel drive to get here. Last summer my brother visited and rented an all wheel drive minivan. 6 of us went to this site in that van. NEVER buy a used rental vehicle !!
This cache is located a short, fairly flat walk from the dirt road. Look for your GPS to point you toward a large rock formation. After you find the cache, stop listen and smell the isolation of this area. If you are lucky, you ran over some sage, and that aroma will permeate the site.
We painted our ammo cans gold, hence the name. The cache is at 5978 feet in a site that isn’t visible from the road. Please help us by trying to haul out a little bit of trash when you leave.
The original cache contents were:
Disposable flash camera (please tell us when it's empty)
Genuine uneaten Southwest Airlines peanuts
"Out of Bounds" CD
Rock Collection pencil (have to see to believe)
Wal Mart gift card (undisclosed value)
GI can opener (these things really work !)
Picture of a little girl (thanks Mike)
