Geocache Description:

Lest we forget

The cache is situated very close to one of the war memorials near the Monument.  My great uncle is one of the fallen whose name is engraved among the many who lost their lives in conflicts both old and new.

The memorial consists of an obelisk, two colonnades, and gardens. The colonnades and obelisk are constructed in Portland stone, the sculpture and lettered panels are in Meuriel marble, and the Second World War inscription is in Hopton Wood stone. The obelisk stands in the centre of a traffic island, with the colonnades to the northeast and southwest, and the gardens beyond them. The memorial is a grade II listed building.
The Monument is the most prominent and central location on Lord Street and can be extremely busy especially so on nice days as people rest in the lovely memorial gardens nearby. I have taken several sets of co-ordinates and taken the best average. BYOP, this is 'muggle' central, so much stealth and awareness is needed to retrieve and replace the cache.
