Geocache Description:


Store Smørstabbtinden is the second highest mountain among the Smørstabbtindene. The peak is 2208 masl and has a vertical separation of 200 metres. It is located in Lom municipality in Oppland county. The cache is a PET preform containing a pencil, logsheet and a small compass.

The easiest place to park and start the hike is at Krossbu Turiststasjon at 1267 masl. The hike is not the hardest and you should be able to make it in 6 hours. There is no need to cross a glacier in order to reach Store Smørstabbtinden, however, make sure to study a proper map in order to find the safest route. THe last part may be a little bit steep, but the reward that meets you at the peak makes it worth it! Please note that you should bring proper footwear and clothing for mountaineering, as the weather can change quite quickly in the mountains.

The cache in placed in Jotunheimen national park. The purpose of the national park is to preserve the mountains and its eco system. The area is open for simple wild life adventures. The access to the cache is not restricted, however, please act as careful as possible and make no impact on the vegetation and wildlife.
