Geocache Description:

The majority of the trek is along a 1/3 mile paved access road, then via about 500 feet of wooded trail/path, when accessed from the main entrance.

The park has been totally refurbished. There is now a (free) disc or Frisbee golf course located along the length of the park. The cache can be reached by driving up the paved access road, but the walk in is an easy 1/2 mile walk from the entrance parking lot, with a slight uphill incline walking to the cache, which means a slight downhill return. The access road ends at a picnic pavilion with plenty of parking. One can also gain access, from the North, via Union Cemetery, but it requires a longer, more difficult walk. This park is extremely beautiful, and was originally conceived in the 1880’s (see date on bridge). See rest of the notes for additional information. It is a pet friendly park with portable toilets, child playground equipment and several picnic areas and pavilions. This cache is located in The City of Murals - Steubenville, Ohio. This town is home to Dean Martin, Jimmy the Greek and Tracey Lords, so stop in and check it out. Beatty Park is a little used jewel of a flora and fauna that is worth the trip. The city parks & recreation department had done a fantastic job of maintaining the park. It has wild deer, squirrels, turkeys, and various types of birds including wood-peckers The park entrance is less than a mile west of Highway 7 (Dean Martin Blvd) on Lincoln Ave. @ 40 21.022N and 80 37.439W. Exit Highway 7, anywhere in Steubenville, and catch 4th street. Head south and 4th street turns into Lincoln Ave. I cleaned and restocked the cache on 29 November 2008.
