Geocache Description:

Red Towers is a house designed by William Leiper.

*cache changed and hint updated 20 Aug 2023*

William Leiper (1839-1916) lived in Helensburgh from 1876 until his death, where he designed many local houses.

Redtower is a red sandstone chateau-like mansion built in 1898 by William Leiper for grocer James Allan. At the end of the 20th century it was bought by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Glasgow and used as a drug rehabilitation centre, but it has since reverted to private use and the name has been changed to Red Towers.

Many thanks to Helensburgh Heritage Trust for information and photographs.  Further information can be found at www.helensburgh-heritage.co.uk

There is a small prize for FTF :-)
