"Y como el humus 'suelo' es terra 'tierra', un muerto que está cubierto con terra está humatus 'exhumado'. Porque cuando un romano es quemado y luego enterrado, y terrones de tierra no se tiran sobre la tumba, o si un hueso de un hombre muerto se ha mantenido para purificar la familia, el hogar sigue estando de luto. En este último caso el hueso se purifica mediante el recubrimiento de la tierra ". (Varro, siglo I a.c.)
“And because humus ‘soil’ is terra ‘earth’, therefore a dead man who is covered with terra is humatus ‘inhumed’. For when a Roman is cremated and then buried and clods of earth are not thrown over the grave, or if a bone of a dead man has been kept to purify the family, the household remains in mourning.
