L’edificio oggi ospitante le scuole medie di Mergozzo nel linguaggio della gente del posto continua ad essere “il Villone” per la sua imponenza che, alta sul lago, domina la sottostante placidità del lago stesso. Il suo vero nome è però Villa Oliva, dal cognome della famiglia che lo fece costruire.
Nel 1919, l’ente Croce Rossa Italiana (C.R.I.) acquisì l’edificio come centro antitubercolare per militari. Cessato lo scopo post-bellico, nel 1923 il Villone divenne un preventorio infantile femminile diretto da suore. Nel 1957 mutò ulteriormente la sua funzione in scuola per bambini portatori di handicap. Infine, a partire dagli anni '80 iniziò il suo utilizzo come sede delle scuole elementari e medie, le prime oggi trasferitesi nell’edificio di più recente costruzione, sempre all’interno del parco della villa.
Nei pressi di Villa Oliva, inoltre, nel 1929 fu eretto un oratorio in granito per il culto sacro e dedicato al Sacro Cuore.

The building now housing Mergozzo’s secondary school is known to the locals as “il Villone” because of its imposing presence, which high above the lake, overlooks the peacefulness of the lake itself, stretching further below. Its true name is Villa Oliva, though, originating from the surname of the family who had it built.
In 1919, the Italian Red Cross acquired the building using it as an anti-tubercular centre for soldiers. Once its post-war function ended, il Villone became a preventorium for young girls run by nuns in 1923. In 1957, it changed its function once more and became a school for handicapped children. Finally, from the 80s onwards, it started to be used as the local primary and secondary school, although the former has now been moved to the more recent building also located inside the park of the villa.
Moreover, a granite oratory for sacred worship and devoted to the Holy Heart was erected near Villa Oliva in 1929.
