INUKSUK'S ROCK, Put-in for Eel's Creek Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Inuksuuk: I HATE to do this. I really do. But Terry and I stopped to see the construction and it's huge. The old wooden bridge, I guess the very last one in Ontario made entirely of wood, is still there, so I was able to find and retrieve my fake rock geocache container, but the new bridge is going to replace the old one soon. Terry and I considered just moving the geocache, but we can't tell where the safe places are going to be. The construction project is very big. So I decided to archive this cache and wait until construction is all done. Then I will place a new geocache to mark the location for the kayak/canoe put in for the river.

Geocache Description:

INUKSUK'S ROCK, otherwise known as the Put-in for Eel's Creek, or maybe Up the Creek Without a Paddle (thanks to GeoMamma for the alternative title)

This geocache marks the location on Highway 28 where kayaks and canoes can launch their boats and travel southeast on Eel's Creek to High Falls and the take-out on Northey's Bay Road. But, even if you do not have time to paddle down Eel's Creek today, you can walk to this geocache on land... maybe.

Parking here is tricky, so plan to be safe. Slow down and put on your blinker when you approach the bridge, or pull over on to Haultain Road. There are "no parking" signs on Haultain Road to discourage overnight kayaker/campers from leaving vehicles here for days and days, so you may not want to abandon your vehicle here on Haultain Road for very long. A better plan is to drive to the NORTHEAST side of the bridge by the Crown Reserve sign and park there. There is only space for 2 vehicles.

Inuksuk's Rock is under the bridge. You need to approach it from the NORTHEAST side of Hwy 28 bridge. Find the portage path down to the river and walk along the river to the bridge. It's a 45 degree angle climb to get back up and under where you will find the cache. In summer, take care you do not slip on the sand/rocks. In icy conditions, it may be almost inaccessible. Teamwork or a monkey would really be helpful.

Congratulations to Desafio for the FTF
