When the pioneers came along the Oregon Trail, this area was a nice place to camp before tackling the “grueling climb” up the Blue Mountains to the west. This cache lets you practice a mini-mountain climb! The terrain rating refers to the steep and sometimes slippery section on the last part of your very short hike.
I recommend taking the time to read the display plaques along the trail through the park while you are here to learn more about the history of the Oregon Trail and La Grande. If you are around at the right time of day, you may get to see some deer or turkeys.
Caution: There is also a Letterbox hidden in this park. Its container is a small green box with no room for tradable items. If you find it, I encourage you to sign the log, but do NOT remove the hand carved stamp. A stamp is what makes a Letterbox a Letterbox.
